Different directions

“When you’re a kid, you see the life you want, never crosses your mind it’s not gone turn out that way.”-Monica Wright, Love and Basketball, April 2000.

As a little girl I had a clear picture of what I wanted my life to be. I knew I was going to be a lawyer or a mortician (I know two totally different occupations), but that’s what I wanted. I can hear me having those conversations with mom and her saying “well you’ll always have a job, both of those are always going to be needed.” I know I wasn’t the only kid who pictured in their mind the life they thought they wanted, some of us even drew it in stick figures.

I was a little girl who dreamed of what she wanted, but didn’t have that fairy godmother to help develop those dreams. In my teenage years I dreamed of who would be my husband, how many kids we would have, and where we would live. Then real life set in.

The dream husband went one way and I went another. The kids we would have came years later, but with different people. He was no longer the husband I thought I would have, I was no longer his wife as I knew I would be. We went in different directions. The life I saw for us didn’t turn out the way I wanted.

Those dreams you dreamed that didn’t turn out like you planned, do you reflect on the “what if’s?” Do you reflect on how things would have been had you worked harder to make them come true? Is there anything you could have done differently to make them come true? Life changes directions and we can either change with it or let it change us.

I hope you change for the better.

  1. Wow this brought out thoughts of my younger life! Yes life does change as you walk the path that leads you to the person you are destined to be, it’s all a part of your purpose. Proud of you.

    1. I’ve been asking myself this a lot lately. Someone said that quote to me and it really made me think.
