A few weeks ago I was honored to be a guest at a wedding of a very close friend that over the course of 26 years has now become family.

The wedding was held in Georgia, you know the state where it feels like the sun shines so much brighter than the rest of the world. That Georgia sun be sunning which makes it feel like you are baking. Ok sorry, back to my thought. The wedding was beautiful, it was held near water, which made the ceremony that much more amazing.

The bride was walked down the aisle by her father which was joy and comedy all rolled into one. You have to know dad in order to understand he was giving you the best he was going to give and if you wanted more you were just going to keep wanting. You did a terrific job dad!!

If you’ve ever been to a wedding and didn’t cry a tiny tear, this one would have pushed you right over the edge. The groom did all he could this side of heaven to bring a smile to his brides face and ensure her heart, he would be there for her when she needed him most. When you pretend to be tough but the people that really know you, know you are a bag of marshmallows waiting to be smashed. He knew his bride and knew how much she wanted her mom and sister to be in her presence. In memory of them he created banners with their pictures. Right before the minister began the service he had them brought out and we could have ended right in that moment. Not a dry eye in the place.

The key to happiness is knowing what the other needs and values most, in-spite of what their words say. In that moment the groom knew what his bride needed and valued to make the day all the better, even though I am sure she kept saying she was ok. When two become one realize it’s no longer about you, it’s now about the us. If the two don’t understand they are now one they will have a difficult time creating the us.
